TIPS TO CONTROL YOUR CHOLESTEROL LEVEL
There are two types of cholesterol. Cholesterol is used by the body to make bile (aids in digesting food we eat) and some hormones. There is the bad cholesterol called LDL and the good cholesterol called HDL.
Eating too much foods containing saturated fats leads to an increase in LDL levels. Saturated fats are mainly found in animal products like meat, cheese, milk and eggs. High levels of LDL leads for formation of plaques in our arteries and this increases ones chances of developing heart diseases and strokes. HDL helps clear LDL from our blood.
Eating the following foods helps increase our HDL levels. Olive oil, beans and legumes, whole grains, high fiber fruits, fatty fish, nuts, moderate amounts of red wine and avocados.
Other ways to improve our cholesterol level includes regular exercise, shedding weight if overweight, regularly having foods rich in probiotics ( like yoghurt).
